Good read. Our Bible Study Group found this book inspiring. Getting to know the Master's twelve disciples was fascinating to many of us.
This book reminded me that God loves to use ordinary people to do extraordinary things :) I listened to this book on audio cd and it was excellent. I'm a new Christian who really wants to share the faith and grace of Jesus Christ, but sometimes I honestly don't feel qualified.
Which brings me to this book. it's inspiring to see how God can use each of these character types and each of these men.
There's a bit of speculation on MacArthur's part and, as expected, some repetition, but all in all, it was a book that really spoke to me and one that i was glad to have read. even moreso, how Jesus reacts to them individually and as a group.
I'm something of a fan of John MacArthur's writings and teachings. obviously, MacArthur deals with the twelve apostles and he delves into each of their characters and attributes.
[.]. sometimes, i think the books may tend to beat a dead horse in a sense, proving and reproving the same points again and again, but the points are usually worth taking note of and he generally writes about topics that are relevant and engaging.
I've wanted to read Twelve Ordinary Men for quite a while and i'm glad that i finally got around to it.
Works very good with the bible for a good teaching or learning tool. Good account of all the apostles. good description of the twelve apostles. Helped me to understand a lot of the things that were going on during Christ's early ministry.
MacArthur stuck almost exclusively with scripture and mostly relied on the gospel accounts to describe the disciples. At this point some loose connections are made to essentially create an understanding of the disciple in question without convincing facts to back up the understanding.That being said, there is a clear message that even in the lesser known disciples, they were all ordinary people just as we are today. This was a great book describing the lives of each disciple based on scripture. This does provide a firm foundation, but in many cases gives very little understanding into the disciples.In some cases there are disciples who are only known because of their name being mentioned in a list. They had faults and were used because of those faults.The descriptions are engaging and will provide some solid background when discussing the disciples in a group. Dr. John F.
